The Ghost of Mary By: Beth Haigler and friends I have had only two encounters with ghosts both in Charleston S.C. I stayed with a friend of mine who has since moved to places unknown in a turn of the century house on Tradd street. Unfortunately, I don't remember which house it was because I only stayed there once. I was coming out the bed room and saw this woman dress in a long brown calico dress walk from the bathroom and down the stairs. I could see her plainly. She had brown hair up in a bun and looked as if she belonged in the 1800's. The house was built in 1898. I panicked and woke my friend up and said there was someone else in the house with us. We ran down stairs (This was only a minute after I saw the woman) but could find no one and the house was locked. She asked me what she looked like and I told her. Then Janna looked relieved! She said "Oh, that's just Mary. She won't hurt you." "Who's Mary I asked. Janna said that Mary was the daughter of the first owner of the house. She didn't remember the last name but Mary had died in a carriage accident in 1901, in the bed that I was sleeping in. I was in her bedroom. Talk about getting the creeps! The Ghost cat My friend asked not to have her name printed but her ghosts can be printed. It seems she has several including a ghost cat. I too have a ghost black cat. When she was alive she had kittens under my neighbor's porch. One day I came home and found that she had been hit by a car in front of my house so I buried her in my flower garden in front of my window. A few months later I'd see the form of a black cat run by me and out of the closed back door. At first I thought my other black living cat Tasha was having freak attacks and running around the door. But I followed this streak one day and there was nothing there behind the door. The Ghost of Emily along with several other ghost Another friend of mine had a sayonce and found out that the ghost was of a young girl who adopted her and her husband. They don't know how she died she wouldn't say. But she told them her name was Emily. There is also a little boy who I have seen appear sitting on a chair. He looked like late 1800's or early 1920's. I've only seen him once. I've seen glasses hover in the air. I saw paper come floating from the back room into the living room. I think these ghosts are connected to the land not the trailer. Another friend of my told me now she's haunted. She has seen a black man in slave like clothing run from her bedroom through the living room and out of the windows. Also a lady in a very prim and proper black dress who looks very angry appears in her hallway when she and her husband have fights and slams doors. I was there for one door slamming feast but I didn't see her. All the doors from the bedrooms, the bathrooms and familyroom started slamming for about five minutes then stopped. She wasn't in the House. She was fighting with her husband in the yard and I was inside yelling: enough with the DOOR SLAMMING ALREADY! There was also blood all over the table one night. I mean gallons dripping off the edges on the floor. My other friend and her husband cleaned it up and went to bed. The other friends got home in the morning and j and k went to show them the blood and all they found was a bunch of crumpled paper towels but no sign of the blood. They found out that the land was part of a plantation where slaves were owned and there had been several horrible murders there on the spot where the house was built in the early 1800's. Another friend has a ghost that rings the phone, pops out lights and makes things hover around her to let us know she's around. The telephone that rings and is never plugged in. The first time it happened, My friend, I'll call her kay because she doesn't want her real name used, was sitting in her living room. It was about 8 O'clock at night and we were waiting for her husband to get home. We were talking and suddenly we hear a phone start to ring. It was kind of muffled so we knew it was the cell phone or her kitchen phone. We started to look around because it kept ringing and ringing until she went to where she was keeping newspaper to be recycled and uncovered the old kitchen phone she'd just tossed in a corner (She does things like that) and it was ringing. She held up the lose cord and said "I don't think this is J calling." I was about to come out of my skin and run, but she said it had happened to her before and no one would be on the line but she wasn't scared. She said a lot of strange things had been happening in the trailer where they lived. She said she had been using the "board" and had found out something about what was happening. Like there were two ghosts who were in the trailer but at that time she didn't know who they were.
